This sardine from Hokkaido is highly praised for its exceptional taste, and among all the sardines, the "Otoro Iwashi" is the one with abundant fat in its body before spawning and boasting a large body with rich fat.

The sardines that can only be caught off the coast of East Hokkaido from September to October contain 23-28% (common sardines contain 10-15%) of fat, which gives them a taste like Otoro of tuna.
